Colombia’s Endemic Bird Photography Tour: Capture Rare and Threatened Species.
The tour begins from: Bogotá, Cali, Santa Marta, Medellin or Pereira.
Location: Andes Range or Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

Day 0. Medellin - San Rafael (-,l,d)
We will pick you up at San Jose Maria Cordoba International Airport in Medellin and take you to Guatape or San Rafael to Rest. In the afternoon, we will photograph hummingbirds warming up for the next day, when we will begin the tour. Rest.
Day 1. San Rafael (b,l,d)
Today begins the tour, which will photograph the emblematic White-mantled Barbet (Endemic), our first target, among other specialties such as Tanagers, Barbets, Hummingbirds, Saltators, Thrushes, and Euphonias.
Day 2. San Rafael (b,l,d)
Today, we will visit another reserve to photograph our second target of the tour, the Sooty Ant Tanager (Endemic), a rare and tough bird, but we will present to you in front of your lens as well as other species as Little Cuckoos, Collared Aracari, Black-bellied Wrens and more. In the afternoon we are going to Jardin. Rest.
Day 3. Jardin (b,l,d)
Today, we are visiting a reserve where we will photograph one of the rarest birds in the world, the enigmatic Oilbird. We are also photographing the Red-bellied Grackle (Endemic), our third target of the tour, as well as other species such as Blue-necked Tanager, Andean Motmot, Green Jay, Black-chested Jay and Emerald toucanet, among others. In the afternoon, we are going to Mistrato. Rest.
Day 4. Mistrato (b,l,c)
Today, we are focusing on photographing one of the most beautiful tanagers of Choco and our four targets, the Black and Gold Tanager (Endemic), as well as many other species that come to the feeders. In the afternoon, we will go to Tatama National Park. Rest.
Day 5, 6 and 7. Tatama National Park (b,l,d)
Today, we wake up in the middle of a Choco Biogeographic region in a National Park; these mountains are massive. For three days, our goal is to take pictures in the wild at different elevations, looking for some incredible species. Our Main goal is the Emblematic Gold-ringed Tanager (Endemic) and some other spectacular species, such as the Chestunt-bellied Flowerpiercer (Endemic) and the Dusky Starfrontlet (Endemic), among other endemics and specialties, which are very difficult to capture. Photography in this natural park is mainly for avid, fast and good photographers, those who manage to turn a perched bird into a work of art. Rest in Manizales.
Day 8. Manizalez (b,l,c)
Today, we are going to calm down a little bit; in the middle of a cattle farm, there exists a paradise of bird photographers, a place with different spots that we are going to take advantage of to create pieces of art. Here, we can take a picture of one of the most beautiful toucans of Colombia, the Emblematic Gray-breasted Mountain-Toucan, some fruiteaters, antpittas and the Hummingbird with the longest bill of earth.
Day 9. Manizales (b,l,c)
Today, we will go to National Park Los Nevados to photograph our fifth target, the Buffy Helmecrest (Endemic), an epic Hummingbird whose home is at 4.200 masl near the snow. Then, come back to the reserve to photograph some tanagers like the Hooded-mountain Tanager, the Lacrimose mountain Tanager, and the Scarlet-bellied mountain Tanager, as well as the spots of Antpittas and Hummingbirds. Day 10. Manizales (b,l,c)
Today, we will visit another reserve for our sixth target: an Endangered and beautiful Bicolored Antpitta. This bird lives on the ground in the middle of the forest and is one of the most challenging to find. You will also have the opportunity to capture the Black-bellied Toucan, Black-collared jays (Near Endemic), Masked trogons, and many hummingbirds.
Day 11. Manizales (b,l,d)
Today, we are visiting the home of the enchanting of Birds, a person who dedicates his life to attracting birds to spot in front of your lens, such as the Endemic Brown-banded Antpitta and some others like the Chestnut-crowned Antpitta, Bicolored Antpitta, and Slate-crowned Antpitta. Here is an Emerald toucanet and some hummingbirds. In the afternoon, go to Chinchina. Rest.
Day 12. Chinchina (b,l,d)
This place is one of the best spots for Photographers in Colombia. Here, you can enjoy a delicious cup of coffee and many species of birds, one of them very special: a Honeycreeper with Bilateral gynandromorphism, which occurs due to a mutation during cell division in the formation of birds. That is not endemic but is one of the unique species in the world. Afternoon goes to Cajamarca.
Day 13. Anaime (b,l,c)
This day will be one of the most productive days of the tour; You will have the opportunity to capture five targets. The Yellow-eared Parrot (Endemic), Tolima Blossomcrown (Endemic), Tolima Dove (Endemic), Colombia Chachalaca (Endemic) and Indigo Capped Hummingbird (Endemic), among other specialties as Toucanets and Tanagers. Rest.
Day 14. Transition Day - Km 18 (b,l,d)
Today, we will have the most extended road trip from Anaime to Cali, Kilometro 18; in the middle, we will stop to capture one of the most beautiful hummingbirds from Colombia but not Endemic, the Emblematic Ruby Topaz. Rest.
Day 15. Dagua (b,l,d)
Valle del Cauca is a Department of Colombia with the most number of hot spots for birdwatchers, with 900 species in this zone, practically wherever you see there will be a bird. Still, today, you are going to the best spot for photography of rare species of the choco Biogeogaphic. This is not a place with the best light, but it sure works to capture wonderful birds like Glistening green Tanager, Spot crowned Barbet, Toucan Barbet, Choco Brushfinch and Green Thorntail, among many others.
Day 16. Km 18 (b,l,d)
Today Will be the second most productive day of the tour. You will have the opportunity to capture two endemic species with your lens: the multicolored tanager and The Chestnut Wood-Quai,l among other specialties such as Little Tinamu, Toucanets, Tanagers, and Hummingbirds. Rest.
Day 17. RETORNO HOME. (b,-,-)
